It is approached to the concept of 'forbidden knowledge' through a historical perspective in the book which is the result of a long term research narrated by the philologist
and man of letters, Roger Shattuck. He indicates that prohibitions practiced based on either religious doctrines or value judgements have gradually turned  into a prevailing understanding as "it is dangerous to know everything" and "being contented is wisdom". The research in which forbidden knowledge is analyzed by being categorized has the characteristics of a challenging invitation for this knowledge to turn into explicit knowledge in our day.
